The Department of Physics is continually striving for excellence in teaching and research since its inception in 2008 and to establish itself as one of the reputed departments in imparting basic understanding in science and in enhancing the quality of technical education. It is located on the scenic campus of the Anna University of Technology Tiruchirappalli, Panruti Campus, Panruti.

The Department of Physics is an active beehive strengthened with 3 Assistant professors for teaching, research and department activities.

The Department offers credit based courses in basic Physics to undergraduate I year engineering (B.E) (both regular and part-time) students and Ph.D programme.

The Department of Physics is well equipped with different laboratories viz., I year B.E-Physics lab and Crystal growth lab.

The Department is unique in having vibrant research disciplines in the areas of Crystal growth, Thin film technology and Condensed Matter physics. The Department has received Rs.48 lakhs (Rupees Forty Eight Lakhs only) from DRDO, CSIR for various research schemes. Now 5 students are pursuing their Ph.D., both Full-time and Part-time.

The Department has one Collaborative Research Programme with University of Uminho, Portugal

The Department of Physics conducts Science Day celebrations every year on 28th February.
